Set against one of Australia’s most iconic backdrops, Kelsey’s Sydney Opera House wedding was a glimmering celebration. For Kelsey and her partner Christian, the day unfolded as a seamless blend of meaning and modern elegance.

Kelsey and Christian first crossed paths more than a decade ago at Bond University, where he had moved from Canada to study law while she pursued architecture. “We were part of a close group of Bondies,” and what began as friendship evolved into something deeper, with the couple building a life side by side in Double Bay.

The Proposal

Their proposal was as thoughtful as it was beautifully orchestrated. Christian enlisted the help of Kelsey’s best friend Clarissa, crafting a day layered with surprises. “For weeks, Clarissa told me she had won a prize, hair and makeup at Joh Bailey followed by high tea at the InterContinental in Double Bay,” Kelsey recalls. With Christian “at golf,” as expected, the plan unfolded perfectly. “We were all dressed to the nines and walked back to our apartment, where Clarissa poured me a large glass of rosé and led me down to our Sydney Harbour balcony.”

There, the moment revealed itself, a breathtaking scene of roses, orchids, oysters, and champagne, set to the unmistakable soundtrack of Kelsey's favourite song Days Like This by Van Morrison. “It was everything,” Kelsey says, a proposal that felt both deeply personal and unforgettable.

An Iconic Sydney Affair

When it came to envisioning the wedding, inspiration came naturally. Drawing from her background in architecture, Kelsey looked to the Sydney Opera House, its palette, its form, and its unmistakable presence. “It has always had a special place in my heart,” she explains. “I wanted a real statement piece that felt like a red carpet moment, while complementing the Opera House’s iconic pearl-like façade.”

That vision carried through every detail, from the gown to the jewellry. Kelsey’s Christie Nicolaides pieces held particular significance, part of a tradition between mother and daughter. “My mum has always gifted me Christie Nicolaides earrings for special moments, my school formal, my engagement, race days, and now my wedding day,” she shares.

Choosing the Sydney Opera House as their venue was both a personal and shared dream for Kelsey and Christian. “We wanted to create a bucket list moment for our guests,” Kelsey says, many of whom travelled from outback Queensland and Canada to be there.

A Look That Felt Like Home

Kelsey’s advice to other brides is grounded and heartfelt: “Be true to yourself and what you want for your wedding look.” Because, as her own day so beautifully proved, the most memorable celebrations are the ones that feel entirely, unmistakably you.

And when Kelsey stepped into her full bridal look for the first time? “It felt like the one we had all imagined,” she says simply a moment of certainty, where every detail came together exactly as it was meant to.
