Kythera: The Island of Aphrodite

Kythera is a dream adrift in the Aegean, an island where time forgets to hurry. Here, waterfalls tumble like silver ribbons through hidden gorges, and ancient olive groves whisper stories to the wind. The sea shimmers in shades of sapphire and jade, kissing quiet beaches where the only footprints are your own. Villages perch on hillsides like secrets waiting to be discovered, their whitewashed walls glowing in the golden sun. It’s a place where myth and nature dance together, and every path feels like the beginning of a fairytale.

Spend the day with The Collector, Christie Nicolaides, as she traces familiar paths, unearthing hidden coves with inspiration woven into every corner. From sunlit ceramics to centuries-old ruins, Kythera is a place where beauty feels instinctive, a muse in island form.

Where to Swim

Kaladi

About 100 stone steps lead you down to Kaladi, and it’s worth every one. Framed by cliffs and a natural rock arch, it’s one of Kythera’s most striking beaches. Pack sandals and stay awhile.

Founi

A quiet rockpool hidden down a dusty track, Founi is made for floating. Peaceful, clear, and untouched, it’s a secret worth seeking out.

Chalkos

Pebbled shores, striped umbrellas, and a taverna serving souvlaki and icy ouzo, Chalkos is where locals linger and visitors people-watch the afternoon away.

Diakofti

Kythera’s only sandy beach, Diakofti offers glassy water, a charming bridge, and the softest swim on the island. A postcard-perfect escape.

Christies Top Tip:

Visit the Karavas bakery for the best fresh honey and almond paximathia and a strong cappuccino freddo.

What To Eat

Filio, Kalamos

Tucked into the hills of Kalamos, Filio is a quiet local gem. Homemade food, olive trees, and a view that begs you to stay a little longer.

Skandeia, Paleopoli

Shaded by trees and steps from the sea, Skandeia is the perfect place to escape the sun and settle in for a slow afternoon.

Manolis, Diakofti

Feet in the sand, salad on the table, and the Aegean just metres away. Manolis makes lunch feel like a ritual.

Psomoladea, Kapsali

No signs, no frills, just tables by the water and seafood so fresh it tastes like the sea itself. Psomoladea is where the locals go, and where time slows with every sip and every bite.
